The Interview

Today was the first time i actually was set out to interview a series of total strangers, and i must say, it was a fun experience. Although I had my few worries before i started with what i would say, as i started it all flowed naturally. Sure there were like two people that blew me off but I didn't care. The other young ladies that me and my partner did get to interview were actually very wise and open to our topic, which was food production. One provided us with tons of sources that she watched and read about the topic - books, videos, documentaries, etc..

Overall it was a growing, educating, fun experience.

Community Service

My service-learning experience was interesting. One main reason is because i was presented to an organization that not only helps with cleaning the community, which would look good on my resume, but it coincides with a company named quicksilver that has to do with something i enjoy - Skateboarding.
There, I raked leaves regardless of it being summer time. This is because the trees shed twice a year to keep the trees fresh and free of disease. Overall the experience was fun

High Line

High Line park was nice, relaxing, and climate friendly. Being that the park used to be a railroad track, the architectural work related to that idea in a form that was so artistic and clever. Most importantly the park had lots of man set areas of trees and plants where i actually found someone working and managed to obtain information from about the park.

MindMaps

The Mindmap i created wasn't a hard task at all. The information to make the mindmap was just flowing naturally for me mostly because of what Global Kids has taught me when it comes to food production.

Elevator Pitch

Today I had to present an Elevator Pitch along with two of my classmates. The topic of the pitch was climate justice, climate change, and global warming. Acting out the presentation was actually somewhat of a rush for me at first, but as i began everything just flowed naturally. The only downside of my groups presentation was the lack of eye contact which isn't such a bad overview, because we still managed to get a lot of information across. My role was the introduction which I think i performed just "Ok", due to lack of eye contact. Aside from that i spoke of climate justice and how it basically entails of organizations that revolve around global warming and climate change.

Climate Change and The Communtiy

Climate change affects me and my community in many different ways depending on the level of the change. It can be based upon greenhouse gases that take part in destroying the ozone layer. The ozone layer plays a big role in how we live and climate because it helps to block out UV rays. To much of those rays can be destructive towards us humans. To combat a situation like this lowering the amount of fossil fuels we burn can be very helpful.

Manhattan Neighborhood Network (MNN)

The Manhattan Neighborhood Network was full of new experiences, excitement, and laughter. Things I've never been given the oppurtunity to witness, i witnessed at MNN. The main thing i learned was the making of a talk show. It was very interesting to see the whole production and recording behind the scenes as my classmates were trying to improvise their own talk shows. What stood out to me the most was the constant amount of communication through the cameramen, director, and other workers on the set behind the cameras.

Farmer's Market Vs. Supermarket

The Farmer's Market, in my opinion, is a much better choice of shopping for certain food products rather than the Supermarket. I believe this for many reasons. One reason is that majority of the food from Farmer's Market is organic and very fresh. The food provided there is usually picked from the farm about two to three days prior, and sometimes even the day before. Their food is also usually out and ready to be sold fresh, unlike the supermarket that processes and wraps majority of the fruits and vegetables in plastic which is an environmental issue due to over use of plastic.

Over Consumption

This image points out the over comsupmtion of the world through McDonalds. This is due to the fact that a lot of the meals from Mcdonalds has high amounts of calories. Meal number one for example which is a big mac, fries, and a soda has nearly one thousand calories. That's more than 30% of the amount of calories you should have daily.

Brooklyn Biodiversity

Where I'm from there isn't a lot of biodiversity pertaining to various wild animals and things like that, but there's biodiversity amongst ourselves as humans. Brooklyn contains many different races and cultures of people whether it be Caucasian, Asian, or Black etc. We still manage to work together and supply for each others needs. These needs can be food, health, shelter, and even clothing. Regardless the amount of different races (Species), we stil manage maintain our biodiversity within our community.

Lesson Learned

I learned various things today based on sustainability. The one topic that I focused on the most for today was Wind Power, due to the fact that my group was assigned to study that form of energy
